Tide Clinch Playoff Spot in Style !
Tacoma Tide 6 - 2 Yakima Reds

After a summer season, 8 road matches and 7 home games, the Tacoma Tide season was still in the balance. The Tide needed a tie or a win in their 8th and final home match to make the playoffs. Yakima, their opponent would snatch a playoffs spot from the Tide if they got the win. To add to the evening’s importance, a festive setting was made by a pre-game carnival with blowups, BBQ, games, and even a dunk tank to appreciate fans and sponsors. However, the party was momentarily halted as the Tide went down 1-0 in the 11th minute of play. Jr. Garcia, the league’s leading scorer, broke away from the Tide defense to notch his 14th goal of the season. Garcia’s 14 goals matches his entire team’s combined total.  He is a definite candidate for the NorthWest Division - Player of the Year. The Tide took the goal like a cold shower in the morning, they were woken up.

Spencer Schomaker, 5 goals in last 2 matches

Things got rolling just 5 minutes after the Yakima goal. A Dennis Sanchez lofted cross created a difficult catch for Reds’ goalkeeper, Robert McCurdy. Daniel Scott challenged the keeper, and when the ball squirted free, Spencer Schomaker swept it in. Before Yakima could catch a breath, Schomaker struck again. Tucker Maxwell’s long throw-in met the rising forward for a textbook header inside the near post. The 2-1 Tide advantage meant Yakima had to score 2 more goals and stop the Tacoma attack to qualify for the playoffs. The Tide kept pushing.

Tide Earn Crucial Win in 7 Goal Thriller
Tacoma Tide 4 - 3 Cascade Surge

Fans in Salem, Oregon were treated to their money’s worth Saturday night. The match was certainly not for someone with high blood pressure or an aversion to excitement! With two results in the final two matches, the Tide will clinch a playoff spot. A big match looms on July 19th against the Yakima Reds, but the first leg of the job came on the 12th.

Spencer Schomaker, scorer of goal 2 & 3

The Tide were punched in the gut just 30 seconds into the Cascade Surge’s last home match. A shot partially saved by goalkeeper, Jordan Jennings, ended in a scuffle at the back post eventually nudged home despite Tucker Maxwell’s best efforts to clear it off the line. The Tide were faced with a task, and they took to it quickly. Rory Agu was constantly getting behind the defense on the night with nice through balls being placed on the end of his runs. The first goal came from similar action which ended up on a lay-off to Chase Tangney running underneath Agu. The ball bounced near the penalty spot and Tangney crushed it into the net.

Tide Enter Home Stretch
2 matches remaining - 7/12 & 7/19

The Tacoma Tide are heading into the home stretch! The Tide need to finish in the top two positions of the Northwest Division to qualify for the Playoffs. Right now, the Tide are in a first place tie with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Each team has 28 points, however, the Tide have 2 games remaining, while the Whitecaps have 4 remaining.

With the goal being the top 2 spots in the Division, you look down to the 3rd spot and see the Yakima Reds. The Reds have 3 less points (3 points for win / 1 pts for tie / 0 pts for loss) than Tacoma . Yakima does have one game in hand to pull even with the Tide.
