Tacoma, Wash. - With 11 games remaining on the schedule, the Tide FC are two games out of the USL Premier Development League’s Western Division’s final playoff spot thanks to the team’s third straight win, this time downing the Abbotsford Mariners on the road Friday 1:0.
Poor field conditions and flaring tempers changed the style of play into one that was predicated by the long ball, cautions and two ejections.
In the 53rd minute, forward Wes Van Hooser took a cross from Vlad Voin and netted his second goal of the season, giving Tacoma (3-2-0) the game its lone goal.
Four minutes later, Van Hooser’s name was once again put into the statistician’s book when he and Abbotsford (1-3-1) defender James Farenhorst were given red cards after the two exchanged words and some contact after a whistle stopped play.
Yellow cards came in the 35th (Tacoma’s Ty Klein), 58th (Abbotsford’s Mike Riehl), 81st (Tacoma’s Brandon Blanks) and 90th (Tacoma’s Daniel Gray) minutes.
