I will start this blog off by telling you a little about myself. Few people know that I am very superstitious. I am superstitious about everything during game weeks; from how I wake up in the mornings, what I watch on TV, the shoes I wear, to the music that I listen to. Being that we lost last week I had to change the ways that I went about my week in preparation for our game this weekend.
This week my goal was to purchase my new yellow cleats. I tend to change my cleats depending on how well I play in them. Since I didn’t score last week in my favorite white T90’s I felt this week I had to change things up with my new bright yellow cleats. Of course when I arrived to practice and put on the new cleats I received several comments from my fellow teammates, such as “you’re wearing bananas!” and “we can finally see you at night!” That practice I would have to say was the best we have had as team so far this season. Every player that played in this week’s game was at practice, which was a first.
This week we had a former player rejoin the team, Cam Vickers. Cam’s a short and speedy wing player, who also resembles a 12 year old. His skills have improved a lot from last season. I was impressed with his maturity on the field, which continued to show in our game this weekend. When he scored and again when he assisted one of my goals. Personally, I think Cam has been one of our missing links on the field. With his return we got a lot of wing play which was much needed for our style of play.
A lot of people are looking at the start of our season as a disappointment for not making the Open Cup, but if we look back at the first five games of last season, we’re actually off to a better start this time around. So I say looking at where we are now there is a whole lot of soccer to be played.
