On the night when the Tacoma Tide won the Northwest Division title, they took time to recognize some champions from the past. Frank Morrone, Lea McMillan, and Curt Corvin were all inducted this year into the Tacoma-Pierce County Hall of Fame. The three athletes exemplefied competitiveness as well as community spirit over their years as athletes.

Frank Morrone, a 3 sport star at Lincoln High School in the 40’s, went on to be a state renowned baseball umpire. Frank was a softball and baseball umpire for nearly 30 years in the Tacoma area. As a player, Morrone played across the nation while in the Navy. His playing highlight was playing center field for the Bunker Hill - Indiana Service team at Notre Dame Stadium.

Curt Corvin was a track and field standout at Lakes High School. Mr. Corvin then moved onto the University of Washington in the 80’s. Curt was an All-American distance runner who cracked the 29 minute mark in the 10,000 meters.

Our last honoree was Lee McMillan. Lee is a Hall of Fame hand ball player. Lee placed 1st in the National Collegiate Doubles Championship, and he also won the Pacific Northwest Regional Open. A Lincoln High School alum, McMillan added a 1st place at the Seafair Open Singles Handball Championship to his resume.

The night was a great success for the fans, players, and these special guests. The Tide are gratfeul to have had them in the stands!
