Tide Make Comeback, But Finish Disappointed
Tacoma Tide 2 - 3 Ogden Outlaws

On another hot night in Utah, the Tide made a valiant comeback but let in one more final goal at the game's end. The Tacoma Tide once again found themselves behind by a goal in the early portion of a match. An unlucky bounce evaded defender Stephen Mohn and the Ogden attack was on. The ball would eventually find Marco Martinez on the back post for the easy tap in. In contrast to the night prior, on BYU's wide, well groomed field, this time Tacoma was playing on a narrow, bumpy, hard surface. Everyone knew the match would not be easy.

Chances were few in the 1st Half, so when the second half threw a free kick opportunity to the Tide in the 64th minute, the significance was great. Ciaran O'Brien, making an appearance off the bench on the night, curled a 25 yard shot off the cross bar and straight back over the wall. The shot was inches from evening the score. With the pitch small, scoring chances were few; so when Bruno Baca was flicked through and poked in a goal on the near post the task of a comeback seemed like climbing the nearby mountains.

With tackles and physical play condoned by a lackluster officiating crew, the intensity of the game grew even higher. Then, the Tide made a break. Ciaran O'Brien made a step over pass to the head of Spencer Schomaker. Schomaker placed the ball on the foot of Beau Macaluso (71st minute sub) and Beau flicked a shot passed the on rushing goal keeper. 2-1, Tacoma with the momentum. Pressure began to switch to the shoulders of the Ogden players and in the 89th minute the equalizer came. Scott Hand, another substitute threw in an enormous ball from a throw in. The ball knocked wide to Mutanda Kwesele playing on the right wing. Kwesele beat a defender to get of a dangerous cross that pin-balled around before falling to the keen feet of Ciaran O'Brien. O'Brien calmly put it in the corner.

It was like a weekend long weight had been lifted from Tacoma FC shoulders... that is until one minute later when a long shot was saved by goal keeper Daniel Prichard. The save fell to the feet of Outlaw Shawn Blymiller for the easy finish, and the win.

The Tide drop two in a row in Utah and wait for the BYU vs Abbotsford result. Tacoma Tide get a chance for redemption this coming Friday. June 22nd, the Tide host Ogden on home soil: 7:00pm at Curtis High School. Tickets are $4 for students, $7 for adults.
