It was the Tacoma Tide with the Surge on Friday night at Curtis High School. The Tide’s perfect home record reached 5 games after a first half of dominance. The Tide surged ahead in what felt like seconds after the opening whistle was blown. A testing ball sprang forward from the Tacoma midfield and the only player there to meet it was Chase Tangney.  After slowing down and seemingly losing a great opportunity, Tangney calmly passed the ball past goalkeeper David Eguren to score. The goal sees Tangney first into the scoresheet on back to back games The dominance continued for the Tide as a keen Rory Agu found another gaping hole in the defense. Agu used the outside of his foot and quickly put the ball past the Cascade keeper to make the score 2-0 in the 26th minute. There was certainly some shaky defending that lead to the first two goals of the night. That cannot be said for the third. A clever interchange between Brayton Knapp (Tide right wing) and Taylor Hoss (Tide left fullback) lead to a heal flip from Knapp and a shot near the penalty spot for Hoss. The defender looked like a comfortable forward as he scored his first goal of the season. 3-0 in the 45th minute.

The Tide comfortably possessed the ball in the second half. A few good opportunities fell to Tacoma feet, however, the score line never shook. Jordan Jennings, the Tide goaltender made some excellent saves on the night. Jennings recorded yet another shutout on the season, making the total to 3 shutouts out of 4 games. Jennings has only conceded 1 goal on the season.

With fellow front runner BYU out of action until later this month, the win puts the Tacoma Tide unanimously in 1st place of the Northwest Division. The Tide stand with 16 points out of 7 games played. The Cascade Surge stay on 7 points, their record: 2-5-1. The Tacoma Tide’s next game is on the road in Utah. They play BYU on June 15th and then Ogden, the following day. The next home match is June 22nd @ Curtis HS.
