High Tide In Northwest
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Tacoma Tide New Name of Tacoma F.C.
Tacoma, WA, March 8, 2007 –Tacoma F.C. has chosen Tacoma Tide to be the new club name beginning this upcoming season. The team will continue using the same yellow and blue colors from the previous season and MVP Physical Therapy will remain the team’s principle sponsor.
A contest had originally been scheduled to name the team, but the friends, staff and players of the team bounced around ideas before finally settling on the Tacoma Tide. The Tide are reminiscent of the Tacoma Tides of the old American Soccer League (ASL). The ASL was created in 1931 and was central to the initial promotion of soccer in the United States. The 1976 Tacoma Tides roster featured such players as Bruce Arena, past US men’s national team and University of Puget Sound coach and forward Pepe Fernandez, the all time scoring leader of the NASL at the time.
The Tide will continue to use the Tacoma FC logo through the 2007 season.
